Trumpington Road footpath success

John Grimwood and Cllr Olaf Hauk inspect the cutback of hedges along Trumpington Road.

Summer after summer, we received complaints about overgrown hedges along the footpath on the west side of Trumpington Road. The vegetation was forcing pedestrians onto the busy cycle path. This posed a real safety issue, especially for older residents and parents with prams. It was an accident waiting to happen.

Hedges are cut by the City Council on behalf of the County Council. We kept pushing the councils to act before spring, when hedge cutting restrictions come into place to protect nesting birds.

We are pleased to say that this year the hedges were finally cut back properly in January, restoring the full width of the footpath.

We’ll keep monitoring the situation to make sure the path remains safe to use.

The Trumpington Lib Dem are committed to make active travel as easy and inclusive as possible.

You can report long grass, overgrown plants and fallen branches on the council’s website.
