This winter has been a particularly bad season for potholes. Unfortunately, it is also a particularly bad season for pothole repairs. No wonder they are topic number one on the doorsteps right now.

This is a nation-wide problem, with an estimated £18.6 billion pounds needed to fix potholes across England and Wales. This is well beyond the budget of local councils. It is even an international problem, with Germany’s local Councils facing similar challenges.

The Liberal Democrats are currently running a petition to government to provide the funding needed to fix our roads.

Roads and highways are the responsibility of the County Council. The Chair of Highways, Cllr Alex Beckett, has published these very useful blogs, where he explains the causes of potholes and what the County Council is doing about them.
